SPECTRA

‘SPECTRA’

Hosted and sold in conjunction with Ivy R Consulting’s ‘PROJECT 02

Spectra is a curated collection of mathematical artworks printed on acrylic glass, exploring the structural beauty of mathematics through the medium of digital colour.
Each piece in the collection is built on a foundation of mathematical functions and matrix representations, where the precision of algorithms meets the fluidity of colour, creating an ever-evolving visual symphony that reveals the infinite spectrum of possibilities in computational art.

Each image begins with three formulas, one for each of the red, green, and blue channels. For every pixel, we take its X and Y coordinates, drop them into those formulas, then get three numbers between 0 and 255 - these are the two endpoints of an 8-bit colour scale. When those three numerical layers are stacked together, the full image appears. What visually appears fluid and organic is entirely driven by pure, precise mathematics. Spectra’s aim is to demonstrate how code, matrix structures, and mathematics can coexist visually and harmoniously to create something truly beautiful.

By making the underlying matrix structure visible, Spectra invites viewers to recognise the aesthetic potential of code and linear algebra, revealing that precision and expressiveness can coexist in a single visual language. Each work is rendered at high resolution on a premium photo print, mounted behind 3mm high-quality, hand-polished acrylic glass.

Signed and numbered editions, accompanied by the source formulas, are available exclusively through Ivy R Consulting linked here.

This project would not exist without the inspiration of mathematician Hamid Naderi Yeganeh, whose explorations in visual mathematics opened the door to this journey.

Chroma FLow

Chroma Flow is a generative artwork dominated by deep, shifting blue hues, created through a blend of trigonometric functions and exponential decay. Sine and cosine transformations interact across the canvas, generating smooth, wave-like patterns, while exponential decay softens transitions for a fluid, organic effect. The strong presence of blue arises from the way the mathematical functions distribute colour, emphasizing the blue channel over red and green. The result is a composition that feels like a continuous current of energy reminiscent of water, light refraction, or atmospheric gradients

Radial Bloom

Radial Bloom is a generative artwork created using polar coordinates, where colours and patterns radiate outward from a central point. The red, green, and blue channels are controlled by trigonometric functions applied to radius (r) and angle (θ), producing a structured yet organic flow. Sine and cosine waves shape the intricate petal-like formations, while exponential decay softens transitions, creating a luminous, blooming effect. The result is a dynamic interplay of symmetry and motion, evoking the natural patterns found in waves, light, and organic growth.

Luminal Path

Luminal Path is a generative digital artwork created using trigonometric and exponential functions to map colours across a coordinate grid. Each pixel’s colour is determined by a set of mathematical equations that define the red, green, and blue channels. Sine and cosine waves introduce rhythmic patterns, while exponential decay softens transitions, creating smooth gradients. The result is a luminous composition dominated by white, pink/purple, and blue hues, forming an intricate balance between structured mathematics and organic flow.

Spectral Shift

Spectral Shift is a generative artwork that explores the dynamic interplay of trigonometric and nonlinear transformations to create fluid, shifting gradients. Sine, cosine, and tangent functions generate intricate wave-like patterns and curving shapes, while reflectional symmetry adds balance and repetition across the composition. The red, green, and blue channels blend seamlessly, creating smooth transitions between colours. The result is an ever-evolving visual that feels both structured and organic, reminiscent of light refraction, energy waves, or flowing currents.
